[She offered over the box of chicken fried rice before taking a few bites herself.]

[She starts into some general tso's, and pauses to consider the flavor.]

[She chuckles a bit at the former, shaking her head.]

I bet. And that's called General Tso's Chicken, and it's pretty great, yeah.

[It was better than merely pretty great.]

This meat, it is not one I know. What is it called?

Chicken. It’s a kind of bird. In this case, it gets covered in bread crumbs and deep fried before it goes in the sauce.

Chicken is good.

[Lauri-Ell will definitely favor chicken. Well, until she tries something else. EVerything is new for her.]

[She grins, nodding.]

Trust me, chicken can do so many things across the world.

[Can it? Lauri-Ell looks resolved.]

[She grins, prodding at another dish.]

Wow, everything about you is 'go big or go home', isn't it?

I don't want to go home. I thought I was welcome overnight?

[Expressions don't make sense to her yet. She's working on it.]

[A fact that is easy to forget, especially in unguarded moments.]

Huh? Oh, right, sorry. It's...wow, ok, every explanation I can think of for that idiom just leads me to another, harder-to-explain idiom.

[She just grins, shaking her head.]

You'll just have to trust me that it was meant as a compliment about how bold you are and we'll both hope that I'm better on a non-wine night.

[A compliment about how bold she is. Well, she's DEFINITELY going to use that, probably wrongly, to Wiccan and Hulkling. And probably Carol. Who will correct her.]

[She smiles and actually blushes a little, reaching over for another box.]

In that case, you can trust me to recommend this chicken chop suey. It's always best the first night, so eat as much as you want.

[Lauri-Ell smiled and took the offered box, happy to enjoy something suggested to her. The first bite led to a hum of pleasure.]

Humans make such amazing foods.

Got us there. We're amazing at food. Not only does every culture make their own unique things, but then we get together and blend them and the food becomes little cultural ambassadors.

It's great.

[She happily stabs at a peapod or two.]

Kree are a bit more... homogenized. On food at least.

[Or so her experience said.]

[She nodded]

I don't know enough Kree history, but I'll bet it all worked our real different for you. But hey, maybe one of your many legacies will be bringing cuisine to the Kree. Never know, right?

[She was quiet a moment after that.]

Ok, you're way better company than the date was ever gonna be, tonight.

Kree history was one where we were vaulted far too soon into the stars.

[Why would she be the one to bring cuisine? SHe cares for the royals, she brings justice. That is her legacy.]

[She considers that, quietly taking it on board.]

Heh, well, good, because you're stuck with me now.

[She gets up to load a selection of foods onto her plates, then sits down closer to Lauri, leaning up against her.]

See? Stuck.

[Aw, what a kind friend. Lauri-Ell smiles at her and nods.]

I believe I am not stuck, but I very much welcome your friendship, Janet. Talking to you is a pleasure.

Jan. Only my parents call me Janet.

[She gently pokes Lauri in the arm as a reminder, whispering a 'holy crap you're firm' under her breath, with an impressed look.]

I'm not very formal, and I you can relax around me. I promise, there's nothing you can do that will make me take offense.

[Yes, many people comment over her muscles. And her height. She was apparently considered very strong from a human perspective. She had been told by one drunken man that it 'was not attractive, for a woman to be so buff'. She had kicked his stool out from under him. It had not been polite.]

I am certain there are things. There are always manners in which to cause offense, Jan. And I serve not only as your friend, but as a representation of my people and how we can change.

[Her reaction was very definitely not that. Impressed about covered it. She liked strong, really, though she'd never seen it in a Lauri-Ell kind of form before. It was pretty.]

Right here, right now, you're my friend and unless you're going to start calling me names or insulting me, you're fine, really.

[She shifted position, to make eye contact.]

You did the representation part pretty much the day I met you. You're a fantastic person and the best ambassador. But we can both relax tonight, right? I want you to have fun, too.
