It was always an ideal, not usually something achieved in reality - but I read the old poetry books on the subject like mad when I was a teenager.

[She hops up, popping off her shoes so she can make a run up the stairs. She's gone for about five minutes, coming back with a small stack. She folds herself onto her knees in front of Lauri, nodding.]

Ok, I may have gone a little overboard. Got...two volumes of romantic poetry, but there's also a couple really well-known texts. There's Roswall and Lillian, which is short - oh, and Amadis de Gaula - buuut the most famous one, in English at least, is this one: Le Morte d'Arthur.

Getting there, buuuuut if I concentrate on the chicken balls...

[She offers over a box full of them, first.]

[Lauri-Ell tilts her head and looks forward to see them.]

Chickens come in many shapes. How do they know to do that? Do you breed them for it?

[She smiles at that. Oh, gosh.]

We breed them for a lot of things, but in this case they take some of the meat, roll it into a ball, cover that in a bit of bread, and then deep fry it. Here, hang on...

[She hands over some of the perennial orange sauce that comes with them.]

You dip them in this, if you want some contrast in flavor. They're simple and very popular.

[Dip them, huh? Lauri-Ell takes her fork and spears a chicken ball and then dips it. And once she eats it, she makes a pleased noise.]

This is very good suace. What is it called?

Sweet and sour sauce.

[She pokes one of her own with a chopstick.]

I could eat them every day, I really could.

I suppose I would consider that sour. I do not taste the sweet to it, though. Perhaps my tongue works different.

[A nod as she takes a bite.]

It's that way for a lot of people. Me, it tastes syrup-y. Sweet, for sure.

Perhaps it reflects your nature?

Ok, I know you're being honest and straightforward, but these are actually date-level compliments - and yeah, when you find your Earth-girl, you are absolutely ready.

I am glad I will know how to talk to them.

[Ah, that is good to know. Lauri-Ell keeps smiling as she thinks.]

I think I would like that. To be cared for. I have never known that. Affectionate love.

Trust me, it'll happen. You make your move on the right Earthling, and they'll respond in kind. It's the only possible outcome.
