[She gently pokes Lauri in the arm as a reminder, whispering a 'holy crap you're firm' under her breath, with an impressed look.]

I'm not very formal, and I you can relax around me. I promise, there's nothing you can do that will make me take offense.

[Yes, many people comment over her muscles. And her height. She was apparently considered very strong from a human perspective. She had been told by one drunken man that it 'was not attractive, for a woman to be so buff'. She had kicked his stool out from under him. It had not been polite.]

I am certain there are things. There are always manners in which to cause offense, Jan. And I serve not only as your friend, but as a representation of my people and how we can change.

[Her reaction was very definitely not that. Impressed about covered it. She liked strong, really, though she'd never seen it in a Lauri-Ell kind of form before. It was pretty.]

Right here, right now, you're my friend and unless you're going to start calling me names or insulting me, you're fine, really.

[She shifted position, to make eye contact.]

You did the representation part pretty much the day I met you. You're a fantastic person and the best ambassador. But we can both relax tonight, right? I want you to have fun, too.

[Strength comes in more than physical forms. It's okay to lie other ones too.]

Why would I call you a name that was not your own? And insults seems unkind for a friend.

[But that serious look earned a soft smile from Lauri-Ell.]

I like learning, Jan. It is fun for me. You should enjoy learning to. Such as learning that you should have higher standards than looking toward the man who has cause your heart pain in the past.

[Ugh well wasn't that eighteen kinds of perceptive of her. She ducked her head a bit.]

Yeah. It's complicated, but...it always felt like if I'd done one or two things differently it would've all been fine. But...yeah. the past doesn't give do-overs.

[She looked up, cheeks red and eyes a little bit misty.]

God you're sweet to say that, though.

It is very likely, given what I know of him, that changes in your behavior patterns would not have affected his behavior enough to salvage anything. You should understand this. You are a wise, talented, capable woman. He is unsuitable. And fruit should be thrown at him.

[Not that Lauri has a VERY CLEAR opinion.]

[She's in the middle of nodding - and then blushing fiercely - when she gets to the fruit line. And makes a snorting sound as she bursts into laughter. Sometimes, it's not just a great joke, it's the perfect timing.]

[What? Lauri-Ell looks confused. Why was she laughing?]

Have I said something wrong?

[It takes her a moment to speak, wiping away a happy tear or two that escaped.]

Oh, gosh, no, the absolute opposite. It was really sweet and just...a really funny mental image.

[When she can, she takes one of Lauri's hands and gives it a squeeze.]

For someone getting to know this planet, you really seem to know the right things to say.

[She's still confused.]

Do you not pelt unsuitable and distasteful suitors with spoiled fruits and meats? Is that only a Kree thign?

[She shrugs]

It'd probably make things a little better if we did - clearly we have a lot to learn from the Kree.

[Perhaps it would not, perhaps it would. Who knows. Lauri-Ell doesn't.]

Well, had I the materials, I would pelt him.

[She grins, still giggling.]

I know, which is what makes it so great.

He also never made me laugh like this, so...yeah. I think 'listen to Lauri-Ell' will just be the order of the day.

[Never made her laugh like this? Lauri-Ell might have to leave some spoiling meats in his bed. She MIGHT have access, given she's allowed in the mansion like this... She will have to consider that.]

I am sorry that he is a sub-par male specimen.

[She says, with a completely straight face, before taking a mouthful of food out of some fried rice. Yes, this is good too.]

[She waves it away]

He is, as of tonight, absolutely the past. Time to look to the future and all that.

Oh, I don't advice scrying the future. It gives Mur-G'nn headaches she says. It is very difficult and often misleading.

I'll bear it in mind.

[She shakes her head, sighing.]

I'm just going to say it: you're going to make a lady incredibly lucky one day, you know that?

[And just in case...]

By which I mean if you're this sweet and kind now, I posit you'll be even better in girlfriend-mode.

[Lauri-Ell offers a small smile, perhaps a frustrated one.]

I hope I shall. However there is not much time to 'go on the market' as they say. I spend much of my time working. Rebuilding a justice structure under the Emperor's approval has not been simple.

[She nods, sympathetically.]

Yeah, that can't be easy. You'll just have to figure out who you like and go for it. I mean, not that you don't have some built in great moves already.

Kissing someone then announcing that only your Emperor's command can keep you away will work very well, I think.

[Is that really a method? Lauri-Ell laughs and shakes her head.]

That would not be noble behavior, Jan. I shall resist such dramatics. I would rather be liked for my honesty and feelings than for such behaviors.

[She grins, shrugging.]

That's what'll do it for you, I know. Us Earth Girls like us some passion.

But you do have this whole knight-errant thing going on that was once considered very romantic.

[Knight-errant?]

I do not know what a knight-errant is. Are they like the Knights of the Infinite? I am sworn to the service of the Emperor as they are.

Sort of, yeah. It was that they had to go on quests for their sworn liege and they would carry out their oaths faithfully, and always behave towards their loves with both grace and dignity.

It's not so much of a romantic image now, but it used to be in our movies and books.

[She ponders.]

Hasn't really been done much, for ladies loving ladies - that'd make for some neat stuff.

Oh.

[Lauri-Ell's eyes almost glitter at the idea. The way she talks about it? It's amazing.]

That is a good thing to be. To have such nobility.

[She smiles at that. She looks so pleased with it.]

It was always an ideal, not usually something achieved in reality - but I read the old poetry books on the subject like mad when I was a teenager.
